The Flamingo Shepherd I
Mechanical drawing, ink, liner pen, ballpoint pen on paper
42 x 56,5 cm
16.5 x 22.2 in
This drawing is part of a series of mechanical drawings partially executed by a modified cutting plotter, adapted by the artist for this type of drawing.
The artist creates a digital collage that is then passed through several digital processes in order to obtain an image comprised of vectorial lines on multiple layers. Each layer is then drawn by the plotter, line by line. The result is an image comprised of scribbled lines. After the image is complete, the artists intervenes by hand to enhance or modify certain areas of the drawing. While the preparation of the digital file may take about two hours, the plotter draws each layer in about 3-4 hours depending on the size and complexity of the image. An A3 drawing comprised of three layers is completed in approximately 6 hours.
While the machine follows the same path as precisely as possible, function of the used pen, ink, the size of the image and the hand interventions, each iteration of the same image is different.
Please note that the drawing is shipped rolled on a tube, safely wrapped in paper and bubble wrap, in a cardboard box.
The artwork is signed on the front and back and a certificate of authenticity is provided.
Dan's works usually depict an alternative perception of the reality that is possible by letting go of the standardised perception of the surroundings.
Once time, space, social and cultural standards become other than boundaries the possibilities are limitless and the creative thought can release us into a freedom which we didn't have the courage to hope for.
He applies the same concept to his process trying to use the result of accidental drops or free gesture finger or brush intervention as a will of a predefined chaos that is used as a pretext for new layers and details of the composition.
The images he uses for reference are collages of various out of context picture cuts found in archives, social media or even screenshots from cinema or television productions.

All collectors have the option to buy the large and extra large artworks rolled or ready to hang. Certain artworks however due to their size can be shipped ready to hang only in certain conditions and for very high prices.
We strongly advice that whenever possible to choose the rolled version since it is much more secure and the costs are greatly reduced. (As an example an artwork with a size of 120 x 180 cm costs more than 800 Euro to be shipped ready to hang in the US and due to it's size and the way couriers manipulate these packages it can easly be damaged. The same artwork shipped rolled with the stretching bars included costs about 135 Euro and it can easily be stretched back at the destination with a stapler, or use the services of a framer that are still way more budget friendly than the ready to hang shipping costs)
Please don't hesitate to contact us for any questions or clarifications!
We can also analyse together the best shipping option for each collector, EU based or otherwise.
